Oil Spill: What Florida Can Do

Sen. Dave Aronberg, a Democrat from Greenacres
wants Gov. Charlie Crist to demand more money from BP and
also go after rig owner and operator Transocean,
Ltd., as well as Haliburton. Less than a day before
the explosion that killed 11 workers on the rig,
Haliburton was pouring a cement sealant at the well
site.

Aronberg wants Crist to ask all three to create a $1
billion escrow account that would be put under the
control of Florida’s chief financial officer or the
governor and Cabinet. Aronberg is running for
attorney general and would be a member of the
Cabinet if he wins.

“That $25 million was just a gesture,” Aronberg
said.
